Housing schemes offered by both the central and state governments help the economically weaker sections of the society build a home. Maharashtra’s MHADA lottery scheme is one such housing scheme aimed at helping people from various income groups get affordable and quality houses in Mumbai and Pune. The scheme is implemented via the MHADA lottery, which has provided housing to thousands of people in the state.
MHADA is short for the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, established in 1948. The MHADA’s mission statement includes providing affordable houses for people from different income groups. It includes lower-income groups (LIGs), Middle Income Groups (MIGs), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Higher Income Groups (HIGs).
As per the MHADA lottery scheme’s 2022 edition, the Pune board of the MHADA shall provide housing to eligible individuals belonging to the LIG, MIG, EWS or HIG groups. The MHADA has earmarked over 700 units for applicants belonging to the LIG category and 227 for MIG applicants. In addition, 105 housing units shall be provided to applicants belonging to the HIG category.
