The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is tasked with issuing an Aadhaar card to every Indian citizen. The Aadhaar card contains a unique 12-digit number that identifies citizens and helps verify their records from the government database. Every Indian citizen, regardless of age or gender, must have an Aadhaar number.
You can participate in the free enrollment process if you do not have one. It is hassle-free and requires minimum documents. Once you have your Aadhaar card, you must link it with your PAN (Permanent Account Number) card to ease the tax filing process. The below guide will teach you how to link your Aadhaar Card with your PAN card
It is mandatory to link your Aadhaar Card with your PAN card. The Income Tax (IT) department passed a resolution in 2017, although the deadline to link your PAN and Aadhaar card has been extended until March 2022.
Linking your Aadhaar with PAN can ease the process of filing your income tax returns (ITR) and help the government easily collect taxes. The latter can increase the government’s revenue and help them develop the country and strengthen the economy. Hence, linking your Aadhaar with PAN is vital for everyone, and here is a step-by-step to doing so online:
You can, alternatively, register yourself and then link your PAN and Aadhaar card. Here is how you can do it:
You can also link your Aadhaar and PAN by SMS. The Income Tax department gives taxpayers an SMS-based to link their Aadhaar with PAN. You need to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161. Send it in the following format from your registered mobile phone:
UIDPAN<SPACE><12-digit Aadhaar><Space><10-digit PAN>
You can also link your PAN and Aadhaar card at the nearest NSDL or UTITSL PAN servicing centre. However, you must carry a photocopy of your Aadhaar and PAN to complete the process.
If you have not linked your PAN card to your Aadhaar card, you can do so by using any of the above methods. Regardless of the method you choose, ensure that you do it before the deadline. According to the Income Tax department, your PAN will become inactive if it isn’t linked to your Aadhaar card.
The notification also noted that the individual would be accountable for failing to quote, furnish, or intimate the PAN. It means that you will not be able to use your savings account or any bank-related services.
